Mission

Assumption Volunteers

“Each of us has a mission on earth. It is simply a question of seeking how God can use us to make His Gospel known and loved.”

St. Marie Eugenie

Empowering Youth

Discovering Purpose through Assumption Volunteering

Convinced that each of us has a mission on earth, we want to help young people discover the meaning of their lives and how they can be of service in the world. Volunteering with the Assumption is one of the ways we do this. For more than 60 years, young people have been Associated with the Mission of the Religious of the Assumption – they are called AMAs.

Being an Assumption Volunteer (AMA) is…

Living alongside people on the margins of society, serving and learning from them

Collaborating with the Assumption Sisters in their mission

Committing time for a period of 4 weeks to two years in your country or abroad

Taking the opportunity to grow personally and to develop new skills

Crossing cultural and language boundaries

Experiencing community and the richness of our differences in an international setting

Taking time to explore your own spiritual journey

Participating in a life-changing experience!

What we offer

  • Each placement is different, volunteers usually get free accommodation and food for their work. In some places they receive an allowance (pocket money).
  • An amazing opportunity to gain new experiences and learn to live simply, in solidarity with the local community in a new culture
  • A rewarding and joyful adventure of self-discovery and making new friends!

Kids Kabin (www.kidskabin.org.uk) is an alternative education project – a creative arts centre, based in Walker, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Middlesbrough. It offers young people creative, purposeful alternatives to boredom. Young people from the ages of 8-13 attend Kids Kabin to do woodwork, pottery, painting, arts and crafts, music, cooking, bike repair and gardening. It also caters for school groups, and runs residential trips, day outings and camping expeditions.

Each year a group of 4-8 international volunteers join the project to develop, plan and deliver sessions in Kids Kabin, living together in their own community in a house based next door to the Sisters. They receive a monthly allowance and money for their food. We provide training, support, accompaniment, retreats and trips during the placement, help and possible sponsorship with visa to the UK. Volunteer for 12 month from September to August, or short term (normally 2 months minimum).
