about the Assumption Legacy Fund
Supporting Education in the Catholic Context
The Assumption Legacy Fund (ALF) is a grant-making trust set up to support charitable projects for the public benefit in the UK. ALF gives priority to the advancement of education, with a focus on the Roman Catholic faith, and for the advancement of the Roman Catholic religion.
We make grants each year to charitable organisations. Organisations do not have to be registered charities but must be not-for-profit to be considered. Social enterprises, Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIO) and Community Interest Companies (CIC) are eligible provided they are not-for-profit, or any profit is reinvested in the organisation. This should be clearly stated within the organisation’s governing documents. ALF may support individuals only in exceptional circumstances.
ALF only supports projects that are carried out in the UK. We seek to make a real and positive difference to the lives of marginalised and disadvantaged people and to support Catholic education in both formal and informal settings.
Our Grant Making Priorities
1) Education of disadvantaged young people
2) Formation in and support of shared leadership within Roman Catholic schools and sixth form colleges
3) Lay people working in or alongside the Roman Catholic church, particularly youth workers and those engaged in transformative education in the tradition of the Assumption
We do not support biomedical and healthcare projects or make grants to individuals for student fees and associated costs.
What You Can Apply For
ALF supports organisations that are embedded in the Catholic community or work directly with people who are on the edges of mainstream society in ways which encourage inclusion, integration and independence through education. Grants range from £5,000 to £50,000 per annum and can be awarded on a one-off basis or for up to 3 years.
- Project costs: the direct costs of a project or activity
- Overheads: we will consider funding a reasonable proportion of the applicant organisation’s overheads that are related to carrying out the project, including monitoring and evaluation costs
- Core/ revenue costs: such as salaries, office rent or professional development
- Capital costs: to buy equipment or to construct buildings; the applicant must tell us how the cost of running and maintaining the equipment or building will be met
Please note that we do not fund retrospectively – which means we will not fund any costs that the organisation has incurred before we agreed to award a grant.
Applications to the Assumption Legacy fund are by invitation only; we do not accept unsolicited applications.
If your organisation or your work meets at least one of the priorities listed above, you can send us a brief paragraph explaining what you are seeking funding for and stating how much you are requesting at [email protected].
